Recovering from the wounds of 2020 Pandemic covid-19, shelved schooling. We decided to send back our 2 kids to school, but this time we wanted them to enjoy every minute of their learning, with ground rules No Pressure, No racing. On 22 Jan 2021, we sent them to their first boot camp for 5D/4N to kadthal forest near Hyderabad conducted by ClimbOn adventure club. Challenges for us & kids were: Kids are below 10 and going to stay without us, Day classes under the sky, Night camps under stars, and no other amenities.
Learning & implementing go hand in hand - Learning doesn't require luxurious classrooms.
Food skills - It's not just eating but also kids learned to gather firewood, make fire, cut vegetables, help in cooking, serving and finally cleaning. This is where kids learn how food comes to their plate and what to do before and after eating. Resource planning, estimation skills are acquired inherently.
Conquer Fear - Hug your fear tightly and scare it.
Now kids can happily survive even with basic amenities, simple & healthy food. Pack & manage their things themselves. Needless to say, kids learned life skills to manage themselves physically, focus on what they are doing and handle their emotions in parallel.
And schooling continues in the form of Homeschooling, Road schooling, in nature wherever and everywhere in Unbounded classrooms. Thank you Gangu & ClimbOn for the event and Kids for sharing their experiences.
